One of our goals is to help improve the level of swimming across the region and we understand that means going beyond the borders of Hamilton Aquatics. As such, we offer ASA Level 1 Teaching Assistant and ASA Level 2 Swimming Teacher qualifications, so if you want to learn more about how you can become a qualified swimming teacher, read more about each qualification below.

Level 1 Teaching Assistant

ASA Level 1 Teaching Assistant

What is it?
The ASA Level 1 Teaching Assistant qualification is a practical learning programme which develops the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to carry out a specific role in the workplace, in this instance to be an assistant to a fully qualified Level 2 Swimming Teacher. It equips the learner to be able to fully plan, deliver, monitor and evaluate swimming lessons as an assistant.

What can you do with it?
The qualification is recognised as the industry standard qualification for assisting in teaching aquatics by the UK national governing body, the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA). It is supported by SkillsActive and the Register of Aquatics Professionals (RAPS) as well as a range of employers including swimming clubs, schools and sports and leisure companies. It is fully recognised in the UAE.

Who is it suitable for?
The ASA Level 1 Teaching Assistant qualification is aimed at learners who are:

Seeking an introduction into teaching swimming
Are seeking to become qualified Level 2 Swimming Teachers
Are seeking further career progression in the swimming and leisure industry/as a PE teacher

Who delivers the course?
All Hamilton Aquatics ASA courses are delivered by our fully qualified Tutors who represent the ASA.

Level 2 Teacher

ASA Level 2 in Teaching Aquatics

What is it?
The ASA Level 2 in Teaching Aquatics is the next step up from the Level 1 Teaching qualification. It is a practical learning programme that develops the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to be a swimming teacher. Within the programme, the skills acquired at Level 1 are built upon, with participants learning to effectively plan, prepare, deliver, monitor and evaluate a series of aquatic teaching sessions. This will allow for sessions to be taught independently.

What can you do with it?
The ASA Level 2 in Teaching Aquatics is recognised as the industry standard qualification for teaching aquatics by the ASA. It is supported by SkillsActive and RAPS, as well as a range of employers including swimming clubs, schools, and sports and leisure companies. It is also fully recognised in the UAE and can act as a stepping stone on to swimming coaching qualifications, which may be of particular interest to schools aiming to strengthen and improve the performance of their school swim squad.

Who is it suitable for?
The ASA Level 2 in Teaching Aquatics is aimed at anyone who wishes to deliver swimming lessons independently.

Pre-requisites?
Anyone wishing to complete the ASA Level 2 in Teaching Aquatics must already hold the Level 1 Teaching Assistant qualification.
